In the Winter Garden

Description

I fly to the top of the tulip tree to feel the rising sun on my breast. The wind ruffles my feathers, and I know that I am beautiful.

Taken in the photographer's garden, Overland Park Kansas at 7:30, 12/29/11.

Lens: Canon EF 300mm 1:2.8 L IS II with a 1.4X converter. Camera: EOS 5D Mark II, on an old and trusty Monfrotto tripod.

But the real trick to this photo is that this bird hatched in my garden and his parents fed him an abundance of healthy seed provided by me. That was after I had planted the trees.

All this: equipment; labor; expense; time, and patience is my way of thanking God for the dawn.

Hello, this critique is on behalf of #Through-a-Lens as you have submitted this deviation to our critique folder for critique.
First I want to comment and say that this is quite a lovely shot. I like the positioning of the bird and you seem to have nailed the focus as well.
I think what could have made this shot a bit better would have been to let more light through the lens, making the red pop a bit more and having the background be a bit brighter. I feel as though that could take away the distraction the pines in the background seem to create with the rigid textures.
